Having a strong working knowledge of basic improv skills is vital for any actor. Introduce yourself to (or review) the basic tenets of improvisation and stagecraft, then apply these techniques to creative storytelling. This class will prepare you for improvising with anyone, anywhere and for creating honest, in-the-moment performances. Learn to listen, give and take, and stretch your character skills in a made up world.
Week 1
- intro to improv for the actor and warmups
- practicing short scenes for commercials
Week 2
- introduce character and object work
- finding physicality in scenes
- begin short improvised scenes
Week 3
- discovering games/patterns
- short scenario scenes with scripts
Week 4
- storytelling techniques
- using emotion
Week 5
- short form game overview
- long form game overview
Week 6
- review and apply to longer scenes
About your Instructor:
Archith has trained at Dad's Garage since 2015 and has taught corporate workshops and students. He was accepted into the inaugural conservatory program at Dad's Garage and has trained through levels 1-5 numerous times since 2015. He has trained at Dynamic El Dorado and taken several Improv classes under Tara Ochs at Drama Inc. His improv group is called Read The Room (long form).
There are no prerequisites for this class.
