IP: Approach to Accents - SAT DAY

Gain confidence in auditions that call for accents -- and maintain it when you book the role! Atlanta actor and dialect coach Carolyn Cook offers a physical approach to accent work that will give you the skills you need to embody a character's unique vocal pattern.

In this class, you will . . .

• Identify your own “home base” accent and embrace it as your starting point
• Explore the bones and muscles of your vocal tract -- the articulators that shape your own speech
• Discover how the sounds and shapes of a new accent are different or similar to your own
• Gain physical skills to shape your articulators into the sounds of new accents
• Listen for the "music" of an accent -- its prosody -- and use it to make your speech more authentic
• Apply these skills and discoveries to monologue work in an accent of your choice.
