This Linklater-based class is a synergy of Linklater fundamentals with a unique mix of exercises developed by Kathleen over the span of her training. In this class, we will explore vocal techniques and step-by-step practical exercises that allow actors to free their individual voices when they speak. Speaking is a physical act engaging the senses, the emotions and the breath. By liberating our voices, we can unite the voice, the senses, the emotions, and the breath with the character. In this way, we use the entirety of ourselves, and are fully present and authentic in our work.
METHODOLOGY: Each week we will explore a new Linklater Exercise, and then apply the exercise to text. The exercises teach:
These exercises help us to discover and correct where each individual actor holds the tension in their body that prevents the vocal freedom needed to fully express themselves. We then apply this new freedom to modern and classical text, including fun and engaging sonnet work that is presented as a “Sonnet Night” during the sixth class session.
LINKLATER TECHNIQUE helps to “clear the tangled paths between emotion, breath and voice so that dramatic communication is filled with authenticity…”
