Prerequisite: The Heart of The Story: Intermediate Screenwriting or Instructor Approval
Advanced Screenwriting is a writer’s room-like format where students will meet once a month (first Wednesday of each month) on a seasonal basis to expand, revise, or polish their short, feature, or pilot screenplay. Writers will also learn how to get their work out there and build the team needed to produce their project. These topics and more will be covered in this ongoing Advanced Screenwriting Class as we work to prepare writers to move from the page to the screen and beyond.
Each session will be unique to the participants, but overall will focus on professional development in areas such as:
Course Goals and Expectations:
As an Advanced Screenwriting class, writers are expected to workshop their own material with the class as well as read the work of their fellow writers and provide feedback. The class welcomes new work and work previously drafted during 10 Good Pages and The Heart of the Story. The goal of this advanced level class is to help writers prepare their work for professional delivery to directors, producers, grants, and competitions.
Session Outline:
The Writing Lab meets once a month for 3 months with sessions in the Spring (March-May), Fall (September-November), and Winter (December-February). All classes are virtual.
A safe space:
This class will be a supportive, safe, and confidential space. Writers are free to explore ideas important to them with the assurance that their stories will remain their own to take into the world. We shall respect each writer’s privacy and not share any written work outside the class without the express permission of said writer.
